How much does an Estonian company cost per year?

An Estonian OÜ has one-off state fees to set up and recurring costs to run: a service provider for the legal address or contact person and accounting, plus banking. Registration costs €265 (source: abiinfo.rik.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026). The rest depends on the providers you choose.

One-off costs to get started

Setting up has a small number of one-off costs, most of them state fees. The table lists what almost every founder who uses e-Residency pays once, before the company is running.

Cost What it is Amount
e-Residency application State fee paid online when you submit the application €150 (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026)
Company registration State fee paid to the e-Business Register when you register the OÜ online €265 (source: abiinfo.rik.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026)
Share capital Money the founders contribute to the company. It is not a fee and stays company money At least €0.01 (source: abiinfo.rik.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026)
Collecting the card You collect the digital ID card in person at the pickup location you chose Your own travel costs
Card reader A smart-card reader to use the card on a computer, only if you don’t already have one that works with it Varies by reader

If you already have e-Residency, you skip the first row. The e-Residency programme has announced that its state fee changes to €165 (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) from , so check the current amount before you apply. If you register through an Estonian notary instead of online, the notary’s own fees apply as well. The guide on what you need to apply and register lists the documents behind each step.

Yearly costs to run the company

Most of the yearly cost is services, not state fees. An OÜ run from abroad needs a legal address: either an address in Estonia, or an address abroad together with a contact person in Estonia. It also needs bookkeeping and an annual report. Most founders buy these as a bundle from a service provider.

Cost What it covers How it is usually priced
Legal address and contact person An address in Estonia for the company, or a contact person in Estonia if the company’s address is abroad The e-Residency programme quotes €200 per year (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) at the low end and €400 per year (source: e-resident.gov.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) at the high end
Accounting and annual report Bookkeeping, tax returns when the company pays people, and the annual report Often bundled with the address in a monthly plan
Banking A business account with a bank or a payment institution Opening fee and monthly fee, depending on the provider
VAT returns A monthly VAT return, only if the company is VAT-registered Included in some service plans, charged extra on others
Card renewal A new e-Residency card after 5 years (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026) The state fee again, in the year the card expires

Service plans differ in what they include. For example, Xolo Leap is publicly listed in tiers, starting with Starter at €59 per month (source: xolo.io, checked 3 Oct 2026), which Xolo offers for an introductory period and up to a revenue limit. Xolo’s pricing page lists which reporting each tier covers. Other providers publish their own prices and bundles, so compare what is included, not only the headline price.

Banking fees vary more than any other line. The guide on banking options explains the kinds of account available, and the figures below are the providers’ own published fees.

How the first year differs from later years

The first year is the most expensive, because it carries the one-off fees. To estimate both years yourself:

  1. Add the one-off state fees: the e-Residency application (if you don’t have it yet) and company registration.
  2. Add a full year of your service provider plan and your banking fees.
  3. Add any VAT-related charge if the company will be VAT-registered.
  4. For later years, drop the one-off fees and add the card renewal fee in the year your card expires.

The cost calculator runs these steps for you, using the same sourced figures, and shows a year-one total and a total for each following year. It flags the card renewal rather than adding it to the totals.

Costs that depend on your situation

Some costs only appear when the company does certain things.

Company or no company

If the yearly costs look high for the size of your work, check whether you need a company at all. Invoicing without a company has no registration or annual report, but it works differently for tax and ownership. The guide do I need a company, or can I invoice without one? sets out the trade-offs.

Common questions

Is share capital a cost?
Not in the usual sense. Share capital is money the founders put into the company, and it stays the company's money. The legal minimum is €0.01 (source: abiinfo.rik.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026).
Do I pay the e-Residency state fee again?
Yes, when the card expires. The card is valid for 5 years (source: politsei.ee, checked 3 Oct 2026), and renewing it means applying again and paying the state fee again. The e-Residency programme has announced that the state fee is due to rise, so check the current amount before you renew.
Do these costs include tax?
No. Tax depends on what the company earns and pays out. Estonian corporate income tax is due only when profit is distributed, and taxes in your country of residence are separate.
